So We Get Home

Waiting  for treatment

A few months have passed since our visit to California. I got sick. Real sick and ended up in the hospital overnight. I know I was really sick because I didn't pick up my knitting needles for a long time. I ended up with cholecystitus - I'm probably spelling that wrong. Anyway, it turned out I had a swollen and infected gallbladder with a 12mm stone blocking a duct. It was so bad they wouldn't do surgery until the inflammation went down. I'm better now after three rounds of iv antibiotics and two oral rounds, but surgery is planned for September 5th and I'm on a no-fat super strict diet. And yes, I've lost weight.

Now on to more fun stuff! The grands with their parents came to visit!

Later, we got company in the form of little people and their parents!

A visit to the zoo!

A visit to the beach with Uncle T.

Reading. Again.

We had so much fun. I'm just sorry they all had to go and that they live so far away. C and H and kids came on a Saturday and were suppose to fly out the next Saturday but their flight was canceled! Three times! Finally, they flew out the following Wednesday on a different airline. Go, Air Canada! I'm not complaining.  It gave us extra time with the kids. My sister Keren and her husband John came the Saturday that Chris and Heidi were to leave so they got in a little visit. Then Nate and Nan and kids came the day after sister Keren and husband left. They stayed for about 10 days. So we've had wall to wall company for the last month. Meals were tricky with my restricted diet but we managed by eating out a lot. Grilled chicken breast and a side salad, anyone?

So, I got my sewing room in tip-top shape. K helped me to purge a bunch of stuff and we pared down a lot. Most of my quilting stuff is gone except my small box of hexagons ready to be put together.

I finished making the woven squares for an afghan for a friend. And just have to sew them together.

Now I'm all ready to sew up a storm. So far I've done lots of mending and worked on K's socks. (I do love socks. They usually work up quickly but I've had quite the detour lately).

I found that with my metal needles I was losing my stitches off the end. I switched them out for my longer bamboo ones. Thankfully, I had the right size. Not only are they longer but they are grippier as well so the stitches won't fall off so easily. Now, to only remember to put them away with my needle-holder-thingy!
